You DO Have Time To Vote

In the middle of our everyday busy lives, we can make time to place our vote this Election Day!

Polls open from 7:00 AM and close at 8:00 PM on November 6, 2018. It may be plenty of time to vote for some people however most working parents are pressed for the extra time it may take to drive to their polling place and place their vote.

Did you know California has an election law which allows you time off from work to go vote? Not every state has this law. The Labor Law Center has an easy search list to find your state and their regulations.

In California, you can take up to 2 hours of paid time to go vote. However, you must request this time 2 working days in advance! This year, make this request by Friday, November 2nd. Employers may require you to take this time at the start or the end of your work shift. No worries right? You could drop the kids off at school then head to your polling place without being late for work. You could leave work a little early to place your vote before picking the kids up from school. Whichever works for you, you can make time to vote!

Your employer should already have this notice posted in your workplace. If not, download it now – time off to vote-english! For more information, read our California Secretary of State page, “Time Off To Vote” Notices.

I'd love to hear from you. Please leave a comment.
