A day trip can make family memories special. Load up the ride and explore Northern California!
We’re so lucky! Stockton, California is a perfect starting point for day trips. We are within a days drive to many different locations throughout Northern California. There are mountains perfect for hiking, cities full of entertainment, small towns with unique attractions, as well as lakes and beaches.
Here are a few places we’ve traveled last Summer.
Mount Diablo State Park has many trails that will take you around and to the top of this beautiful landmark. This was a day trip spent with my daughter and her friends before they all graduated high school. A very special trip indeed!
Santa Cruz is famous for its boardwalk but don’t overlook the many wonderful parks Santa Cruz has to visit. I’m so glad we found Trescony Park to play a little and unwind. Then we had a delicious lunch at Cafe Brazil before doing a little back to school shopping. This was a day trip with a purpose!
This Summer I’m looking forward to visiting new locations with our family. Here are a few of my tips to make find unique places easy.
Start with the Visit California website. They have a lot of ideas and recommendations. You can order the official map and a road trip map to use for your vacation planning.
Determine your radius. What would make a comfortable day trip for you? Would you prefer a 2 hour drive or 3 hour drive to your destination? This way you can estimate the amount of time you will spend in the area and estimate your return drive time.
Begin the day early. No matter where you travel, my personal recommendation is to start early. This makes for a comfortable drive as well as more time to spend exploring.
I have fond memories of traveling to off beat places with my parents. We once visited Los Banos, California for the fun of it! Piling up in the car is one of my favorite things to do with the music playing, car snacks at the ready, and beautiful views. Where do you like to travel for a day trip? I would love to hear your recommendations!
