Ballet Folklorico

Chiapas was the first dance I learned and the first dance to perform solo. I remember being excited and nervous!

Connecting with my Mexican culture of learning ballet folklorico was a special time in my life. Ballet folklorico connected me to my Mexican heritage by learning of the different regions. I remember how we were taught to dance with pride! During high school it was a way for me to express pride without language. I‘m not a fluent Spanish speaker. Yet during practice and on stage, I could be proud of my heritage without judgement.
