How She Does It shares guidance for the active Latina mother involved in her family, community, and career who is looking for balance in her life.

“I don’t know how you do it,” people have said to me often. I used to smile then wonder what to say to that statement. How She Does It shares my stories and those of inspiring Latinas to shed light on this wonderfully busy world of ours!

Our family enjoys watching movies. Here, we had just screened Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. You can learn more about my family, how we are active in our community, and support each other to pursue goals on my Family page.

About Sofia Colón

I live in Stockton, California, an ethnically diverse city of more than 300,000 residents. My great-grandmother migrated to the U.S. when she was a teen. Then she moved her young family to Stockton in the 1930’s. Our family grew up in Stockton’s East and South sides throughout the years. I’m proud to share its history and current revitalization. Together with my husband, who is also my high school sweetheart, we raise our 5 children and nephew.

After graduating from Franklin High School, I attended the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco, CA to earn an AS in Interior Design. Then I successfully worked in this industry until the housing crisis in the early 2000’s. Through God’s grace, I began working with Kaiser Permanente Health Plan as a Member Services Call Center representative. Quite a career change! This unforeseen incident has set my career path in healthcare. Today, I am now a certified professional fees medical coder, Six Sigma Yellow Belt, and have started my own professional development program for Latinas working in the Revenue Cycle.

I’ve accomplished all this while continuing my education. In August, 2021, I graduated from Penn State World Campus with my BS in Health Policy and Administration with a minor in Finance. I plan to pursue a Masters in Health Information Administration in order to earn an RHIA certification. It’s quite a lot at this age, but I’m excited to be on this journey!

Through How She Does It, I hope to help you become more active in your family’s life and community while pursuing your goals and maintaining your well-being.
