Chiapas was the first dance I learned and the first dance to perform solo. I remember being excited and nervous!
I connected with my Mexican culture by learning ballet folklorico. It was a special time in my life. Through the dances I learned of the different regions of Mexico.
I remember how we were taught to dance with pride! During high school, it was a way for me to express pride without knowing the Spanish language. I’m not a fluent Spanish speaker. However, during practice and on stage, I could be proud of my Mexican culture without judgement.
With my stories and those of inspiring Latinas, I share how to balance our family, community and career lives while maintaining our self-identity. I hope to help you become more active in these areas while maintaining your well-being.
