Eat Your Greens!

With the best of intentions, we buy packages of pre-mixed salads only to watch them spoil within days. No more! Here’s how to keep your salads fresh, mix in tasty dressings, and keep your goal to eat your greens this year!

I’m committed to eating healthier this year by adding more salads to the family menu. The challenge has always been to eat the pre-mixed salads before they go bad. I found that using Tupperware’s Salad Spinner and Fridgesmart containers keep the lettuces fresh longer. I’m not talking boring iceberg lettuce here! Try eating various types of lettuces and greens with a flavorful vinaigrette to make a tasteful difference.

For health safety reasons, remember to first wash leafy greens. The spinner is easy to use and effective. Remove the lettuce from the store’s container to give it a wash. Rinse your greens in the colander under running water, place the colander inside the spinner, close the lid and spin to dry. Unfortunately, Tupperware no longer carries this specific product. I found other salad spinners on Amazon here. They definitely make a difference!

Now, let’s be honest. No one wants to eat a boring, dry salad. So, it wilts away in the fridge. Well, not this time! With culinary oils from Flora Health, these tasty dressings make it easy to eat to your greens.

Experiment with culinary oils to add bursts of flavor to your green salads! I’ve whipped up variations of vinaigrettes using Flora Health Pumpkin Seed Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. After trying several ideas, one of my favorites is a mix of Pumpkin Seed oil, apple cider vinegar, and a bit of turmeric and honey. It turned out delicious!

Don’t be afraid to experiment! Find a small glass or bowl, whisk or fork, and have fun!

I encourage you to mix ingredients to your taste. Start with 1 part vinegar to 3 parts oil then the rest is up to you. If you love chili peppers, sprinkle some flakes into the mixture.
