I attended AAPC Healthcon 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada

AAPC Healthcon was several days at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in exciting Las Vegas, Nevada, I placed a sure bet on my future. I attended the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) Healthcon 2017 along with 2,500 coding professionals from May 6th through May 10th.

Professional coders, auditors, trainers, Revenue Cycle management and newly certified members filled the varying sessions. We had a great vendor expo with supporting businesses providing tools for efficient and accurate coding as well as job opportunities and ergonomic products. It was a fulfilling experience!

The conference provided Leadership Training on Saturday, May 6th. There were also special sessions on Saturday, before the general conference, that focused on training and exams. Being our Stockton, California Chapter President, I felt it was important to take the additional leadership training. Our AAPC Chapter Association Board of Directors made it fun with a mock meeting style that helped to address how to effectively prepare and run a meeting, provide a proctor overview, and networking. Several chapters also prepared displays highlighting their chapter’s achievements.

A fun highlight was attending a local chapter meeting hosted by the Las Vegas Local Chapter.

Their MAY MAYnia event on Tuesday, May 8th was fun and inspiring! Michael D. Miscoe, JD, CPC, CPCO, CPMA, CASCC, CCPC, CUC of Miscoe Health Law, LLC reviewed the ethical responsibility of our industry. He inspired us to hold up the professional aspect of our credential with pride and in doing so strengthen the continued credibility of AAPC.

Reinforcing our education at AAPC Healthcon builds our career foundation.

Medical coding has been and will continue to be, an ever-evolving practice. If anyone within healthcare knows to be flexible and proactive, it’s medical coders! We are well aware what is true one-quarter may change, even in the slightest of ways, the next quarter. Attending professional work conferences give us the ability to plug into our networks, reinforce our knowledge base, become aware of what’s to come, and prepare for change.
