When you celebrate a birthday in March it’s such an exceptional time of year. Most often the weather is on our side; spring warmth, shining sun and cool breezes, especially here in California. It’s a wonderful feeling!
Amongst this beautiful weather, I celebrated a milestone, my 40th birthday, in my favorite city, San Francisco, CA doing a few of my favorite things.
Thank you, Hampton by Hilton #Seekender for treating me to a night stay at the Hampton Inn San Francisco Downtown/Convention Center which is conveniently located within walking distance of many well-known hot spots. Our online check-in allowed me to choose my room on the 16th floor. Check out this beautiful evening view!
After a seamless check-in with complimentary snacks, we Lyft‘d to the Mission District to listen to Dra Gloria Arjona who enlightened us all to “Las Chingonas: Badass Women in Mexican HerStory” an interactive lecture with live music. Watch a bit of it here. We learned of new influential women and something new about well-known icons. I purchased her CD, “Frida Kahlo Tree of Hope” and looking forward to reading up more.
After tacos at Taqueria Guadalajara, we Lyft’d back downtown to The View. The View is an awesome bar located at the top of the San Francisco Marriot Marquis with twinkling city views on either side. Without a reservation, it was packed so naturally there was a bit of a wait. My little tip when ordering drinks at a packed bar – double up. I ordered two mojitos along with my birthday dessert. And note to self – use their reservation!
On my birthday, I woke up excited to hit the pavement for a jog to the Ferry Building on Embarcadero. At 9 am the streets were easy enough to jog through without much traffic. Running along Mission St in downtown you’ll pass several photo-worthy stops.
By noon, this popular tourist area was bustling. We had a delicious lunch at Hog Island Oyster Co. inside the Ferry Building then it was time to head back home to Stockton, CA.
I had a wonderful weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday! Saving to splurge for this momentous occasion took planning. Thank you, Brittney Castro of Financially Wise Women, for encouraging women not only to save for special occasions but feel good about splurging when you’ve saved for it. Because not only have I earned it, but I definitely deserved it!
